Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsThe county around Conshohocken ranks among the most ad-heavy in this guide, while the county around Wellsboro ranks among the lightest. Customers might type the same words in both, yet far more bidders chase them in one. 42 of the 152 places have a median household income of $90,000 or more, and 47 are majority renter.
GetPhound manages Google, Bing and Meta ads for small businesses at one flat monthly fee. Each Pennsylvania place below has an advertiser profile with the competition, the people and what both mean for a campaign. Find your town.
Reading the map
Every place has an index from 0 to 100 for how busy its ad auction is likely to be. Sorted into five bands, 56 places fall under "most crowded", 23 places fall under "busy", 29 places fall under "middle of the pack", 23 places fall under "calmer", 21 places fall under "least crowded".
A high band does not mean advertising is a bad idea. It means more bidders share the same searches, so targeting and landing pages have to work harder. A low band can be an opening for a business willing to be early.
Which trades press hardest
For each of twelve trades that commonly buy local ads, we measured employer sites per resident in every county here against the median U.S. county. A reading above 1.0x means the trade is thicker than usual.
| Trade | Average vs. median U.S. county | Counties above median | Median growth since 2017 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physicians offices | 1.67x | 42 of 48 | -7.4% |

| Roofing contractors | 1.35x | 7 of 11 | +17.9% |
| Accounting and CPA firms | 1.27x | 14 of 19 | -5.2% |

By region
Counties are grouped into regions that only exist on this site. Numbers show the median place in each, so a lone big city does not skew a group.

Setting a budget
An ad budget should begin with the value of a new customer. Median household income reaches $250,000 or more in Villanova, $158,194 in McMurray, $158,052 in Franklin Park, $152,417 in Blue Bell, $140,455 in Fort Washington. It sits near the bottom in McKeesport ($31,635), Johnstown ($33,466), Honesdale ($34,700), Lewistown ($36,166), where clear offers and a tight service area usually matter more than polish.
Median home values range from $40,000 to $876,900, a gap that shapes the economics of roofers, plumbers, HVAC firms and remodelers. We never quote a lead price, because it varies by trade, offer and competition. The break-even calculator on each page lets you work out your own ceiling.
Timing
Home during the day. Places with many home-based workers include Narberth (33.8%), Berwyn (30.3%), Blue Bell (28.9%), Bala Cynwyd (28.3%).
Out on the road. Where long commutes are common, calls tend to come in the evening: Stroudsburg (40.5%), Mount Pocono (35.2%), Jim Thorpe (33.5%), Darby (33.4%).
Spanish at home. The highest shares are Hazleton (54.7%), Reading (50.8%), Allentown (40.6%), Kennett Square (31.5%). Ads and pages in Spanish only help if your business can answer the phone in Spanish.
Town lines
Pennsylvania searchers use town names, and the Census reports cities, boroughs and named communities as places. This guide covers 122 cities and boroughs plus 30 named communities such as Levittown, Drexel Hill, and King of Prussia. Ads do not follow town lines, so each page lists the neighboring places a campaign could also reach.
Index extremes
The Place Ad Competition Index blends county ad competition, county density of ad-buying trades, household income and population density.

Questions
Use the nearest city, borough or community. Ads are set up by area, so we can target your exact service area whichever page you read.
Start with what a customer is worth, how many leads turn into customers and how many customers you need. That gives you the most you can pay for a lead. The calculator on each place page does the math.
Some campaigns get calls right away and some need weeks to settle, especially in crowded trades. We make no promises about lead numbers.
No. Fees are monthly and you can stop whenever you like.
Yes, as a separate plan. The Pennsylvania SEO guide covers it place by place.
